Description

Deliciously flaky pastries filled with savory ham and cheese, perfect for a snack or appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
  • 100g ham slices
  • 100g cheese slices (Gruyère or cheddar preferred)
  • 1 egg (beaten for egg wash)
  • Fresh thyme leaves (optional, for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Flour (for dusting the surface)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Prepare Puff Pastry: Lightly dust your work surface with flour. Roll out the puff pastry sheet to smooth out any creases and slightly increase its size.
  3. Cut and Fill: Cut the puff pastry into even rectangles or triangles. Lay a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on one half of each pastry piece. Season with a little salt and pepper.
  4. Seal the Pastries: Fold the pastry over to cover the filling, forming a pocket. Press the edges with a fork to seal them securely.
  5. Egg Wash: Brush the top of each pastry with the beaten egg to achieve a golden-brown color when baked.
  6. Bake: Place the pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and sprinkle with fresh thyme leaves. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Cheese Choices: Feel free to experiment with different types of cheese for varied flavor profiles.
  • Pastry Variations: You can add a layer of mustard or béchamel sauce for additional flavor.
  • Storage: Store leftover pastries in an airtight container and reheat in the oven to retain crispiness.
  • Customization: Add some sautéed mushrooms or spinach to the filling for extra texture and taste.
