Description
Delicious homemade wontons filled with ground chicken, ginger, and green onions, perfect for a crispy appetizer or snack.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground chicken
- 1 package (12 oz) wonton wrappers
- 2 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
- 3 green onions, finely chopped
- 3 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tsp chili paste (adjust to taste)
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, minced (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Filling: In a large bowl, combine ground chicken, minced garlic, grated ginger, chopped green onions, soy sauce, chili paste, sesame oil, and cilantro if using. Mix until well combined.
- Assemble the Wontons: Place a wonton wrapper on a clean surface. Add about one tablespoon of filling to the center. Moisten edges with water and fold into a triangle shape; pinch tightly to seal.
- Heat Oil: In a deep frying pan over medium heat, add enough oil for frying (about 2 inches deep). Heat until shimmering (around 350°F).
- Fry Wontons: Carefully add 4–5 wontons to the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy—about 3–4 minutes per side.
- Drain Excess Oil: Transfer cooked wontons to paper towels lined on a plate to absorb excess oil.
- Serve Hot: Enjoy immediately with soy sauce or sweet chili sauce.
Notes
- Make sure the oil is hot enough before adding wontons to avoid them becoming soggy.
- You can freeze the assembled, uncooked wontons for later use. Just fry them directly from the freezer, adding a minute or two to the cooking time.
