Description

Delicious homemade wontons filled with ground chicken, ginger, and green onions, perfect for a crispy appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1 package (12 oz) wonton wrappers
  • 2 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 3 green onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tsp chili paste (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, minced (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: In a large bowl, combine ground chicken, minced garlic, grated ginger, chopped green onions, soy sauce, chili paste, sesame oil, and cilantro if using. Mix until well combined.
  2. Assemble the Wontons: Place a wonton wrapper on a clean surface. Add about one tablespoon of filling to the center. Moisten edges with water and fold into a triangle shape; pinch tightly to seal.
  3. Heat Oil: In a deep frying pan over medium heat, add enough oil for frying (about 2 inches deep). Heat until shimmering (around 350°F).
  4. Fry Wontons: Carefully add 4–5 wontons to the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy—about 3–4 minutes per side.
  5. Drain Excess Oil: Transfer cooked wontons to paper towels lined on a plate to absorb excess oil.
  6. Serve Hot: Enjoy immediately with soy sauce or sweet chili sauce.

Notes

  • Make sure the oil is hot enough before adding wontons to avoid them becoming soggy.
  • You can freeze the assembled, uncooked wontons for later use. Just fry them directly from the freezer, adding a minute or two to the cooking time.
