Description
Delicious crispy fried cheese rounds made with melted cheese, breaded and fried to perfection.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 ounces cheese, cut into 1/4 inch thick rounds (such as mozzarella or provolone)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1.5 cups panko breadcrumbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
- Marinara sauce (for dipping)
Instructions
- Prepare the Cheese: Cut the cheese into 1/4 inch thick rounds. Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for about 30 minutes.
- Set Up Breading Station: In one shallow dish, add the flour. In a second dish, whisk together the eggs and milk. In a third dish, place the panko breadcrumbs and season with salt and pepper.
- Bread the Cheese: Dredge each cheese round in flour, shaking off the excess. Dip each floured cheese round into the egg mixture, coating completely. Press each cheese round into the panko breadcrumbs, ensuring they are fully covered. Repeat until all cheese rounds are coated.
- Fry the Cheese: Heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot (around 350°F/175°C), carefully add the cheese rounds in batches. Fry each side for about 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove the rounds and drain on paper towels.
- Serve: Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley. Serve immediately with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
Notes
- Ensure the cheese is well frozen before frying to prevent it from melting too quickly in the oil.
- Use a thermometer to monitor oil temperature; if the oil is too hot, the breading will burn before the cheese is melted.
- Experiment with different cheeses for varied flavors.
- For an extra crispy texture, double coat the cheese rounds by repeating the breading process.
